Golden Rams ousted by hot-shooting Tuskegee

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State men's basketball team had to feel as it was in a furnace instead of a basketball game on Monday night. Watching the visiting team sink a whopping 16 three-pointers, ASU lost to hot-shooting Tuskegee University by the score of 77-64.
 
The Golden Rams now own an overall record of 10-15 and an SIAC mark of 5-10. Albany State has now dropped three straight games and seven of the last eight. The Golden Tigers improve to 7-18, 5-10.
 
After holding a 14-13 lead at the 13:57 mark, Albany State trailed for the rest of the game. With 5:08 left in the first half, ASU fell behind 33-19. The Golden Rams used a 10-0 run to cut their deficit to 33-29 by halftime.
 
In the second half, Albany State continued to make a comeback, but timely shots by Tuskegee halted its runs. Jayson Snearl's basket made the score 43-41 with 14:58 left in regulation. However, the Golden Tigers used a 13-0 run to pull away from ASU for good.
 
Devontay Ward led Albany State with 16 points and six rebounds. Michael Green scored 13 points, and JaDon Davis added 11 points.
 
The Golden Rams shot 23-of-59 (39%) from the field, 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three-point range and 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Tuskegee got a game-high 24 points from Elijah McMillan, who also made six three-pointers. Daniel Roach recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds, and James Eads added 19 points.
 
The Golden Tigers shot 27-of-48 (56.3%) from the field, 16-of-26 (61.5%) from three-point range and 7-of-10 (70%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when it hosts Fort Valley State University for its annual basketball homecoming. The Wildcats won the Feb. 4 meeting 74-70. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
