The Albany State Lady Rams picked up a doubles victory and two wins in singles, but it was not enough to tame the Stillman College Lady Tigers. Stillman won 6-3, giving the Lady Rams, now 1-2 overall, their second consecutive loss of the season.
Senior netter Crystal LeGrand and junior Reanah Kellogg teamed up to an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles position. Senior Jasmine Williams and sophomore Jasmine Livingston battled with Stillman’s Eartha Blount and Jade Thornton for the victory in the No. 3 slot, forcing an 8-8 tie. The Lady Tigers fought back and won 10-8. Freshman Ashley Bynum and senior Brittany White lost 8-0 in the No. 1 spot.
After dropping the first three matches in singles play, the Lady Rams picked up two wins as Kellogg beat Valentina Kerman 6-2 and 7-5 in the No. 4 spot. After dropping her first set 7-5, Livingston rallied back to claim a 2-1 singles victory over Blount. Livingston won 6-1 and 10-7.
Bynum lost both sets 6-0 at the No. 1, while White lost 6-0 and 6-2 at the No. 2 slot. In the No. 3 position, LeGrand won the first set 6-3, but Whitney Horner rallied back to win 6-2 in each of the remaining sets. Williams lost in the No. 5 slot 6-0 and 6-4.
The Lady Rams hope to pick up wins as they participate in the first of two SIAC Tennis Roundup Tournaments, at Benedict College in Columbia, SC on March 9-11.
