Hilton Head, S.C. — The Albany State women's tennis team turned in a competitive showing at the PTR Springfest Tournament, finishing the two-day event with a 1–1 record after falling to Liberty University before rebounding with a strong victory over Western New England.
The Lady Golden Rams showcased resilience throughout the tournament, bouncing back from the opening-day setback to close the event with a convincing team performance.
Day One: Liberty 5, Albany State 2
Albany State opened tournament play against Liberty University, battling through a competitive matchup before ultimately falling 5–2.
In doubles play, the duo of
Monique Gundrum and
Ameerah Mesidor delivered a solid performance to earn a victory for the Lady Golden Rams. However, Albany State was unable to capture the overall doubles point as Liberty claimed the remaining courts.
The Lady Golden Rams responded in singles competition with two key wins.
Monique Gundrum continued her strong play by securing a singles point, while
Brooklyn Bowen added another victory for Albany State to round out the team's scoring in the match.
Day Two: Albany State 5, Western New England 2
Albany State bounced back impressively on the second day, defeating Western New England University 5–2 to close the tournament.
The Lady Golden Rams gained early momentum in doubles competition as both Albany State pairs earned victories.
Monique Gundrum and
Ameerah Mesidor once again delivered a strong performance, while the duo of
Brooklyn Bowen and
Le'Ashia Miller secured another doubles win to give Albany State the early edge.
Carrying that momentum into singles play, the Lady Golden Rams continued to dominate across the courts. Albany State earned four singles victories from Gundrum, Mesidor, Bowen, and Miller, sealing the team's victory and finishing the tournament on a high note.
Albany State will now return home to host a non-conference matchup against Middle Georgia State University on March 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Courts at West Campus.
