After spending his first season with the Golden Rams as an Assistant/Infield Coach, Coach Martinez was elevated to Recruiting Coordinator for the 2023-2024 season.
Coach Martinez helped the Golden Rams to a 38-11 record this past spring. It was one of the best seasons in the program history with the most wins (38). Also, coach Martinez helped The Golden Rams to play solid defense throughout the entire year with a .962 fielding percentage. Four infielders were named first team all-conference, and the Golden Rams had the highest fielding percentage in the SIAC this past spring.
Luis Martinez joined the Golden Rams family fall 2022 after previously spending two years at Thomas University. Martinez is a native of Maracay, Venezuela and graduated from high school in 2012. Martinez came to the United States in 2015 where he attended ASA College- Miami. Coach Martinez holds many records at ASA with the most hits in a career (85), the most walks in a career (70). His on base percentage was second in a season and second in a career with .463. Also, during his tenure at ASA, Martinez’s fielding percentage was .970. In 2017, Martinez participated in the Florida Sophomore Junior College All-Stars game.
Martinez continued his baseball career at Thomas University. Martinez holds the record of the most walks in a single season (47). In 2019, Martinez was a part of the Sun Conference Championship team and was selected to be in the Sun Conference All-Tournament team. He was named the Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year by Thomas University in 2019 for his accomplishments.
After completing his collegiate career, Martinez was appointed as a Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach at Thomas University where he directly oversaw the development of position players. Martinez also was a main contributor to Thomas University’s ranking as the number 8 high school recruiting class in NAIA of 2021.
Martinez graduated from Thomas University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and in 2022 with a Master of Business Administration. Coach Martinez is married to Jazmine Martinez. Currently, they reside in Thomasville, GA.
