Golden Rams Announce Upcoming 2026-27 Men’s Hoops Docket

ALBANY, Ga. – It's never too early to get ready for a Golden Ram hoops season! Albany State announces its inaugural campaign under new Head Coach Rodney Mayes and another challenging schedule for the 2026-27 season.

Coming off a 12-win season a year ago, the new Golden Ram director and his staff are busy molding an almost entirely new roster together. ASU has only six returners to its roster led by double-figure scorer Cameron Evans and his 11.6 points and 79 assists along with inside forward Christian Gary (6.3 ppg/4.8 rpg) to lead the effort. Mayes and his coaches are blending in 11 new experienced transfers to the fold.

"We are extremely excited about our 2026–27 schedule. This is a challenging and competitive schedule that will test us early and prepare us for the demands of (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) SIAC play," says new Head Coach Mays. "We intentionally scheduled quality opponents from different conferences because we want our team to be challenged, grow together, and develop the toughness and discipline necessary to compete for championships."

FULL SCHEDULE

The Golden Rams open the season schedule with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Sunshine State Conference Classic held in Boca Raton, Florida. ASU opens against host Lynn University and battles Rollins College to complete the opening weekend. ASU continues the tough November five games with the early SIAC opener against traditional power Morehouse College, home opener with Shorter University and a Thanksgiving weekend trip back to the Sunshine State at Florida Tech.

"Opening the season competing in the SSC/SIAC Classic against Lynn and Rollins gives us an opportunity to measure ourselves against region opponents right away. We also have several important non-conference matchups against Shorter and Florida Technical College before entering a demanding SIAC schedule," added Mayes.

Other than the Morehouse College third game of the early season, the SIAC's 20-game schedule fills the final 19 schedule spots. ASU hosts three December home contests before six more in January, which includes the annual Winter Homecoming event versus Fort Valley State on Jan. 16. ASU completes its final month with home dates with Savannah State, Edward Waters and Spring Hill College.

"Once conference play begins, every game will matter. Playing in the SIAC, There will be no nights off," notes the Ram coach. "Our goal at Albany State is bigger than simply having a good season. We want to build a championship culture. Every practice, every possession and every game is an opportunity to establish our identity and move closer to our ultimate goal. We want our players to embrace the challenge, represent Albany State University with pride, and compete with passion, toughness and purpose.
