Albany, Ga. — Albany State University student-athletes
Na'Haviya Paxton and
Shakur Poteat have been selected to participate in the 4th Annual HBCU All-Star Dream Classic, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at the iconic Rucker Park in Harlem, New York City.
Paxton and Poteat are among just 40 student-athletes from Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationwide chosen to compete in this prestigious showcase. The Dream Classic provides a national platform for HBCU student-athletes to display their talents while celebrating the rich traditions, academic excellence and cultural impact of HBCUs.
Held at the world-renowned Rucker Park, the event places HBCU student-athletes on the same legendary stage where basketball icons such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson and Julius "Dr. J" Erving have competed and inspired generations of fans.
"We are incredibly proud of Na'Haviya and Shakur for earning this well-deserved opportunity," said Albany State Director of Athletics
Dr. Kristene Kelly. "Their selection reflects their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence both on and off the court. They will represent Albany State University and HBCU athletics with pride on one of basketball's most historic stages."
Now in its fourth year, the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic has evolved into much more than a basketball showcase. The event serves as a community engagement experience designed to connect student-athletes with fans, families and future generations of leaders. Through the celebration of HBCU sports and academic achievement, the Dream Classic continues to inspire high school student-athletes to pursue higher education at HBCUs while striving for success in academics, athletics and their future careers.
The event also provides an opportunity to highlight the impact of HBCUs nationwide and strengthen relationships within communities by promoting educational opportunities, alumni engagement and institutional advancement.
Albany State University encourages its faculty, staff, alumni, students and supporters to join in celebrating Paxton and Poteat as they represent the Golden Rams and the SIAC on a national stage.
