Late-Inning Battle Falls Just Short in Home Non-Conference Finale

Albany, Ga. — The Albany State Golden Rams delivered a spirited performance in their final non-conference home game of the season, battling down to the final innings in a tightly contested 4-3 matchup against Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday afternoon.

After falling behind early, the Golden Rams wasted no time responding. In the bottom of the second inning, Ty Grover ignited the offense with a solo home run, cutting the deficit in half and energizing the home crowd. Albany State carried that momentum into the third inning, where timely hitting and smart baserunning helped swing the lead in their favor.

Luke Addison sparked the rally with a triple, setting the stage for Jaden Camp, who came through with an RBI single to tie the game. Moments later, Grover added to his standout day with a sacrifice fly, bringing Camp home and giving the Golden Rams a 3-2 advantage.

At the plate, Albany State showed consistency and discipline, recording eight hits on the day. Aiden Payne led the way with a strong 2-for-4 performance, while Grover finished with two RBIs, making a significant impact in the middle of the lineup. Contributions were spread throughout the order, with Emory Stephens, Arin Chevers, and Perry Usher each adding hits to keep pressure on the opposition.

On the mound, the Golden Rams displayed depth and resilience, utilizing multiple arms to keep the game within reach. Armando Nunez provided a steady start, while William Pridgen and Sebastian Griffeth delivered key scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The pitching staff combined to limit scoring opportunities for much of the contest, keeping Albany State in position to compete late.

The Golden Rams' defense also came through in key moments, turning a double play and executing fundamental plays to maintain the narrow margin throughout the game.

With the non-conference home slate now complete, the Golden Rams turn their focus back to SIAC play as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for a weekend series against Benedict College on April 11-12.
