Carrollton, Ga. — The Albany State men's and women's track & field teams delivered an impressive two-day showing at the University of West Georgia Legends Invitational, highlighted by multiple first-place finishes and a strong presence across events. The Lady Golden Rams turned in a standout performance, finishing second overall with 108.50 points, while the men secured a fourth-place finish with 88 points.
The women's team set the tone early and remained consistent throughout the meet, powered by dominant performances on the track and in the field.
Leading the way was
Cadence Cray, who continued her stellar season with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash (24.25) and a third-place showing in the 100-meter dash (11.95). Her speed proved to be a major contributor to Albany State's point total.
DeAna Albert also delivered a championship performance, capturing first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65, while teammate
Mayah Thompson followed closely with a second-place finish, giving the Lady Golden Rams a strong one-two finish in the event.
Thompson added to her impressive weekend with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.28), showcasing her versatility. In the field,
Cadence Tanner led the way with a second-place finish in the long jump (5.42m), while
Princess Okoye added valuable points with a fifth-place mark.
The Lady Golden Rams also found success in distance events, as
Faith Thompson placed third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:25.95, and
Brea Vann secured a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:23.47). Contributions in the throws were equally important, with
Kaylee Holloway placing third in both the shot put and discus, continuing her consistent performances this season.
Skye Zwirner added a third-place finish in the javelin to round out a strong showing in the field events.
On the men's side, Albany State showcased its strength in sprinting and field events, highlighted by standout performances from
Adoni Nembhard-Belcher. He captured first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.65 and followed it with a second-place finish in the 200 meters (21.70), leading the Golden Rams' sprint unit.
The hurdles crew delivered a dominant performance, led by
Mohamed Bah, who claimed first place in the 110-meter hurdles (14.70) and added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (54.98).
Carsyn Lewis and
Jace Weaver added depth in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing third and fourth, respectively, to secure key points.
In the middle-distance events,
Bangally Touray turned in a strong performance with a second-place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.54), continuing to be a reliable contributor for the Golden Rams.
The field events also played a major role in the men's success.
Michael Trimble led the charge with second-place finishes in both the shot put (14.42m) and discus (42.94m), while also adding points in the hammer throw.
Azwan Nembhard-Belcher contributed with a third-place finish in the triple jump (14.61m), adding to Albany State's scoring efforts.
Across both days, the Golden Rams displayed depth, consistency, and competitive energy, with athletes stepping up in key moments to secure valuable points. The combination of strong sprint performances, dominant hurdling, and steady field event contributions proved to be the difference-maker for both squads.
