Box Score Birmingham, Ala. — The Albany State Lady Golden Rams closed out the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament on a strong note Sunday, earning two victories on the final day with a 9–4 win over LeMoyne-Owen College, followed by a 9–1 victory against Kentucky State University. With the sweep, Albany State finished the final day 2–0, showcasing a balanced performance at the plate and in the circle to cap the tournament on a high note.
Albany State 9, LeMoyne-Owen 4
The Lady Golden Rams opened the day with a comeback victory over LeMoyne-Owen in a game that featured a strong offensive rally. LeMoyne-Owen struck first in the opening inning, but Albany State responded quickly to tie the game 1–1. The Lady Magicians regained the momentum in the third inning, adding two runs to take a 3–1 lead.
Albany State answered in the bottom half of the inning with a surge of offense to take control of the game.
Mackenzie Nervis sparked the rally with a two-run home run to center field, bringing the Lady Golden Rams even before Olivia Mason delivered an RBI double to give Albany State a 4–3 advantage.
From there, Albany State continued to apply pressure at the plate, finishing the contest with 13 total hits. Nervis and
Erielle Reid each led the offense with three hits, while
Avery Fisher added two hits and two walks to help pace the Lady Golden Rams. In the circle,
Tamia Pierce started the game and pitched four innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while recording three strikeouts. Kenzie Fitch entered in relief and closed the game to secure the victory for Albany State.
Albany State 9, Kentucky State 1
The Lady Golden Rams carried their momentum into the final game of the tournament, using a strong start and consistent offensive production to defeat Kentucky State 9–1.
Albany State wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning.
Erielle Reid opened the frame with a triple and later scored when Ari McKenzie grounded out. The Lady Golden Rams extended the lead when Ky Fitch drove in
Avery Fisher, who had singled to center field, giving Albany State an early 2–0 advantage. Kentucky State answered with its lone run in the top of the second inning, but Albany State quickly regained control of the game.
The Lady Golden Rams broke the contest open in the third inning, plating four runs to stretch the lead to 6–1. Albany State continued to add insurance runs in the fifth inning, when Ky Fitch and Olivia Mason helped drive in three additional runs, sealing the victory. Kenzie Fitch earned the win in the circle for Albany State, pitching a solid outing while allowing five hits and one run with one strikeout.
Up next, Albany State will now return home to continue its season with a non-conference regional doubleheader against Eckerd College on Tuesday, March 17. The matchup will take place at the Lady Golden Rams' home field as Albany State looks to build on the momentum from a successful weekend in Birmingham.
