Albany, Ga. - Albany State University softball has announced its 2026 schedule, a slate designed to test, prepare, and excite as the Golden Rams gear up for another competitive season. Featuring a strong blend of conference and non-conference opponents, the schedule includes one classic tournament, one SIAC crossover event, 19 home games, and 17 road contests, giving fans plenty of opportunities to catch the Golden Rams in action while challenging the team across multiple regions and styles of play.
The 2026 campaign officially opens on Saturday, February 7, with a highly anticipated road doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia, scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The season opener carries added intrigue, as the two programs last met on April 1, 2025, when the series ended in a 1–1 split. With both teams familiar with one another and eager to set the tone early, the matchup promises to be a competitive start to the season and an early measuring stick for the Golden Rams.
Following the opener, Albany State continues its early-season road stretch with a February 10 doubleheader at Talladega College in Oxford, Alabama, before heading to Covington, Georgia, from February 13–15 to compete in the HBCU Classic. The classic tournament will provide the Golden Rams with a valuable opportunity to face diverse competition while gaining early-season momentum against fellow HBCU programs.
The home opener comes on February 17, when Albany State welcomes Baptist University of Florida to Albany for a 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Golden Rams then return to the road to face Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, before opening SIAC play with a late February trip to Columbia, South Carolina, to face Benedict College in a three-game conference series.
March brings a busy and pivotal stretch, beginning with a home conference series against Savannah State on March 6 and 7. The Golden Rams then head to Birmingham, Alabama, for the SIAC Crossover, a multi-day event that features matchups against Miles College, Spring Hill College, Tuskegee University, Lane College, LeMoyne-Owen College, and Kentucky State University. The crossover tournament serves as a critical point in the season, allowing Albany State to compete against a wide range of conference opponents in a condensed, high-stakes environment.
Conference play continues throughout March with a home matchup against Eckerd College, followed by a road series at Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida. The Golden Rams close the month with home games against Paine College and Talladega College, reinforcing a strong balance between home and away contests as the season intensifies.
April features a mix of conference showdowns and key non-conference tests. Albany State hosts Allen University in early April before traveling to Atlanta to face Clark Atlanta University. A mid-April road contest against Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus adds another non-conference challenge, while a highly anticipated home-and-home series against Fort Valley State University highlights the latter part of the month. The regular season concludes at home on April 23, when the Golden Rams host Trinity Baptist University in Albany.
With a thoughtfully constructed schedule that emphasizes competitive balance, regional rivalries, and meaningful conference play, the 2026 season sets the stage for Albany State softball to make a strong statement. From the season-opening clash with ABAC to the final home matchup in April, the Golden Rams are poised for a challenging and exciting year on the diamond.
