Orlando, Fla. — The Albany State women's tennis team returned to the courts for Day 2 of the SIAC Roundup Tournament, facing Spring Hill College and Savannah State University. The Lady Golden Rams finished the day 0-2, falling 4-2 to Spring Hill and 5-2 to Savannah State.
Match 1: Spring Hill 4, Albany State 2
Albany State showed noticeable progress in its first match of the day, pushing Spring Hill in multiple tightly contested singles matches before ultimately falling 4-2.
Monique Gundrum once again led the charge, earning a decisive singles victory with steady baseline play and strong court awareness.
Brooklyn Bowens added the second point for the Lady Golden Rams, delivering a confident singles performance marked by consistent shot placement and composure in key moments.
Ameerah Mesidor,
Le'Ashia Miller, and
Autumn Bryant each turned in strong individual efforts in singles, battling through competitive sets and demonstrating growth as the tournament progressed. Though they narrowly missed securing additional points, their fight and resilience were evident throughout.
Match 2: Savannah State 5, Albany State 2
In the afternoon matchup against Savannah State, Albany State continued to compete with intensity but came up short in a 5-2 decision. Gundrum and Bowens remained consistent forces in the lineup, each earning singles victories to account for the Lady Golden Rams' two points. Both players have emerged as steady anchors through the first two days of competition.
Mesidor, Bryant, and Miller again delivered determined performances in singles play, pushing their opponents in extended rallies and competitive games. In doubles competition, the pairings of Mesidor and Gundrum, along with Bowens and Miller, continued to showcase resilience, improving communication and chemistry while competing aggressively at the net.
Up Next: Albany State concludes the SIAC Roundup Tournament on Day 3, opening with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against Benedict College before closing tournament play at 2:00 p.m. against Edward Waters.
