Golden Rams Open Conference Play with Dominant Doubleheader Sweep of Kentucky State

Albany, Ga. — Albany State baseball made a strong statement as they opened conference play on Saturday afternoon at the West Campus Baseball Field, delivering an impressive sweep against Kentucky State. The Golden Rams showcased their dominance in Game 1, defeating the Thorobreds with a decisive 13–2 victory. In Game 2, Albany State continued to impress by securing a commanding 7–0 shutout.

Behind explosive offense and commanding pitching performances, Albany State set the tone early in the SIAC opening series.

Game 1 — Golden Rams' Bats Erupt in 13–2 Victory

Albany State wasted no time igniting the scoreboard. In the first inning, Luke Addison jumpstarted the offense with an RBI double, bringing home David Cooper for the game's opening run. Moments later, Emory Stephens added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 2–0.

The Golden Rams continued to apply pressure in the second. Cooper drove in Perry Usher with a sacrifice fly, and Addison followed with an RBI single. Tyler Turner capped the inning with a run-scoring double as Albany State built a 5–0 advantage.

The third inning proved decisive. Jaden Camp sparked the surge with an RBI triple before Cooper lined an RBI double. Addison then delivered the game's biggest swing — a three-run homer to left — pushing the lead to 10–0. Turner followed with a solo home run, electrifying the Golden Rams' dugout and stretching the margin to 11–0. Stephens added the finishing touch in the fifth inning, blasting a two-run home run to give Albany State a commanding 13–1 lead.

Addison headlined a balanced offensive attack, finishing 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Turner was outstanding at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Cooper added two hits and two RBIs, while Camp contributed a triple and a run driven in. Albany State tallied 15 hits in the contest. On the mound, Quindon Wright turned in a strong start, working six innings while striking out five to earn the win. Colin Loeffler closed the door with a scoreless inning, fanning two.

Game 2 — Crew Tosses Gem as Albany State Secures 7–0 Shutout

Game 2 showcased Albany State's pitching dominance, led by a masterful performance from Samuel Crew. The right-hander was untouchable, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 and allowing no hits across seven innings.

Crew's command set the tone, as Kentucky State struggled to generate any offensive rhythm.

Offensively, Albany State again struck early. Turner drove in Cooper in the first inning, and the Golden Rams added another run in the second when Cooper stole second, and Usher stole home in a heads-up baserunning sequence.

Ty Grover delivered a crucial moment in the third inning by hitting a two-run home run that increased the lead to 4–0. He continued to shine in the fifth inning with a two-run single and later scored on a groundout by Usher, which drove in an additional run. Grover finished the game with a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and leading the Golden Rams, who collectively recorded eight hits. Cooper contributed with two hits, Stephens scored twice, and Albany State displayed aggressive baserunning, successfully stealing multiple bases.
