Albany State Sweeps LeMoyne-Owen, Extends Winning Streak to Five

WILBERFORCE, Ohio — The Albany State University women's volleyball team closed out the SIAC Crossover in dominant fashion Saturday morning, sweeping LeMoyne-Owen College 3-0 at Beacom/Lewis Gym.

The Lady Golden Rams earned the victory in straight sets, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18, improving to 14-8 overall and 8-1 in SIAC play. Albany State has now won five consecutive matches, eight of its last nine SIAC contests and eight consecutive sets. 

Albany State controlled the match offensively, finishing with 39 kills and a .241 hitting percentage while holding LeMoyne-Owen to 27 kills and a .054 hitting percentage. The Lady Golden Rams also recorded 10 service aces and 47 digs in the victory.

Jarianis Perez led Albany State with 11 kills on a .276 hitting percentage while adding 10 digs for a double-double. Maya Ogbogu delivered an efficient performance with nine kills on 14 attempts and just one error, hitting .571 while adding five block assists. 

Shaniya Banks continued the strong offensive showing with seven kills on nine attempts without an error, posting a match-high .778 hitting percentage. Aleiah Carr added five kills, while Amiria Anderson finished with four kills.

The Golden Rams received contributions throughout the lineup as Liannette Burgos dished out a team-high 19 assists, while Trinity Britt added 12 assists and three service aces. Myra Lopez anchored the defense with a team-high 12 digs and two service aces, while Gabby Moore also recorded two aces.

Albany State set the tone early, hitting .379 in the opening set with 13 kills and just two attack errors. After holding off LeMoyne-Owen for a 25-23 win in the second set, the Lady Golden Rams closed the match with a 25-18 victory in the third to complete the sweep.

The Lady Golden Rams return home Tuesday for a huge rivalry matchup against Fort Valley State University. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. as Albany State looks to extend its five-match winning streak and continue its strong run in SIAC play in front of the home crowd.
