Lady Golden Rams Sweep Fort Valley State, Extend Winning Streak to Six

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team continued its impressive run Tuesday night, sweeping rival Fort Valley State University 3-0 inside Jones Brothers HPER Gym to extend its winning streak to six consecutive matches.

The Lady Golden Rams earned the victory by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-16, improving to 15-8 overall and 9-1 in SIAC play. 

With the sweep, Albany State has now won 11 consecutive sets during its six-match winning streak, continuing a dominant stretch of conference play.

Albany State Takes Control

The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle between the conference rivals, with 15 ties and nine lead changes. Albany State eventually separated itself late to secure a 25-23 victory.

From there, the Lady Golden Rams took complete control.

Albany State held Fort Valley State to a negative hitting percentage in each of the final two sets, cruising to a 25-13 win in the second before closing out the sweep with a 25-16 victory in the third. The Lady Golden Rams finished the night with 37 kills while hitting .253 as a team and limited the Wildcats to just 23 kills and a .025 hitting percentage. 

Perez Powers the Attack

Jarianis Perez led the Albany State offense with another standout performance, recording a match-high 16 kills while hitting .353. Perez also added four digs, an ace and a block assist to finish with a match-high 17.5 points.

Aleiah Carr provided another efficient option at the net, finishing with eight kills on a .375 hitting percentage, while Shaniya Banks and Amiria Anderson each added five kills. Banks also contributed five total blocks, including one solo block, while Serenity Jackson finished with three kills and three block assists. 

Albany State's setters kept the offense moving throughout the night as Liannette Burgos handed out 20 assists and three service aces, while Trinity Britt added 13 assists. Defensively, Myra Lopez anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs.

Albany State finished with six service aces and 14 total block contributions while holding Fort Valley State to just one service ace. 

The Lady Golden Rams will look to keep their momentum rolling after pushing their winning streak to six matches and their run of consecutive set victories to 11.
