Golden Rams Gear Up for Pivotal SIAC Week Featuring Three Conference Doubleheaders

This Week in Athletics

Albany, Ga. — Albany State athletics enters the heart of conference play riding momentum on both sides of the ball as the Golden Rams and Lady Golden Rams prepare for a busy week of SIAC competition. Coming off a holiday break sweep, Albany State looks to build on its recent success with three conference doubleheaders, beginning on the road before returning home for a pair of key matchups.

Albany State closed out the holiday break in dominant fashion, posting a clean sweep across competition. The Lady Golden Rams extended their winning streak to four games with a road victory over LeMoyne-Owen, while the Golden Rams stayed red-hot, defeating Shorter University and LeMoyne-Owen to push their win streak to six consecutive games.
Schedule Info: Women's Basketball Preview
The Lady Golden Rams remain on the road to open the week as they travel to Jackson, Tenn., to face Lane College in a matchup featuring two teams riding winning momentum. Albany State enters the contest fresh off a solid road win over LeMoyne-Owen, while the Lady Dragons are coming off a gritty victory against Spring Hill. This matchup will test Albany State's ability to sustain defensive intensity and execution away from home, especially against a Lane team eager to protect its home floor. With confidence growing each game, the Lady Golden Rams will look to dictate the pace early and capitalize on transition opportunities.

Later in the week, Albany State returns home to host Kentucky State on Thursday, January 8, followed by Central State on Saturday, January 10. The Lady Golden Rams will seek redemption against the Thorobreds, who handed Albany State a 65–54 loss on December 7, 2025, tying the all-time series at 9–9 dating back to January 5, 2012. Thursday's contest presents an opportunity to regain momentum in the series and protect home court.

Against Central State, Albany State enters with confidence after defeating the Lady Marauders 68–55 on November 29, 2025. That win sparked a two-game streak in the series, and the Lady Golden Rams will look to continue that success by maintaining defensive discipline and balanced scoring.

Men's Basketball Preview
The Golden Rams open the week on the road, riding a six-game winning streak and showing no signs of slowing down. Albany State has enjoyed recent success against Lane College, holding a two-game winning streak over the Dragons, with both victories coming in dramatic double-overtime finishes. Monday's matchup will test the Golden Rams' composure and stamina, particularly in a hostile road environment.

Later in the week, Albany State returns home for a pair of conference matchups against Kentucky State and Central State, where history and momentum will both be in play. The Golden Rams hold an 11–6 series advantage over the Thorobreds dating back to January 5, 2012, and will look to build on that success after claiming an 80–48 victory in the most recent meeting on December 7, 2024. Albany State's ability to control the tempo and defend will be key in maintaining its edge in the series.

Against Central State, the Golden Rams trail 4–5 in the all-time series, but have momentum after earning a win over the Marauders on December 12, 2024. Saturday's contest presents an opportunity for Albany State to even the series and continue its upward trajectory in SIAC play.
