Milledgeville, Ga. – The Albany State University volleyball team opened its 2025 season on Friday with two tough matchups in the Bobcat Classic hosted by Georgia College. The Lady Golden Rams battled hard but fell short in straight sets to both Rollins College and Emory & Henry University, closing out Day 1 with an 0-2 record.
In the morning session, ASU faced Rollins, where momentum proved difficult to sustain in a competitive match. Despite standout play from
Josiya Teague, who tallied 11 kills for 11 points, and strong contributions from
Jayda Watson (4 kills, 4.5 points) and
Maya Ogbogu (4 kills, 5 points), the Golden Rams dropped the match 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 18-25).
The afternoon match against Emory & Henry saw the Lady Golden Rams push back in the second set, but they ultimately fell 0-3 (15-25, 23-25, 14-25). Senior leader
Jarianis Perez paced the offense with 10 kills and 11.5 points, while
Maya Ogbogu hit a team-best .571 with 5 kills. Defensively,
Talia Smith anchored the back row with 13 digs, and Mimi Harris contributed 10 assists in the effort.
Despite the 0-2 start, the Lady Golden Rams showed flashes of resilience and growth, gaining valuable early-season experience against quality regional opponents.
Up Next: Albany State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a doubleheader to close out the tournament. The Lady Golden Rams will face Young Harris College at 11:30 a.m. before taking on host Georgia College at 7:00 p.m.
