Milledgeville, Ga. – The Albany State University volleyball team wrapped up play at the 2025 Bobcat Classic on Saturday, battling through two competitive matches but ultimately falling short against Young Harris College and host Georgia College. The Lady Golden Rams ended the day 0-2, moving to 0-4 overall to start the season.
In the morning match, Albany State pushed Young Harris to five sets in one of the most exciting contests of the day. After dropping the opening set 25-16, ASU rallied to take the next two, 25-23 and 25-22, behind the offensive firepower of
Josiya Teague (16 kills) and
Jarianis Perez (13 kills, 15.5 points). Despite the surge, Young Harris regrouped to win the final two sets (25-14, 15-13), handing the Golden Rams a narrow 3-2 loss.
In the nightcap, the Lady Golden Rams squared off against host Georgia College in front of a strong home crowd at the Centennial Center. ASU leveled the match in the second set with a 25-23 victory, but the Bobcats' efficiency proved too much in the end, taking the match 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16). Perez once again led the attack with 14 kills, while
Shaniya Banks (7 kills, .667 hitting percentage) and
Josiya Teague (10 kills, .273 hitting percentage) added key contributions. Setter Mimi Harris directed the offense with 25 assists and 2 service aces, and
Talia Smith anchored the defense with 14 digs.
Although the Lady Golden Rams closed the tournament without a win, the weekend showcased their resilience and ability to compete against strong regional opponents. Both matches highlighted a balanced attack and improving team chemistry, key factors as ASU builds momentum for the season ahead.
