Albany State Sweeps Day 2 of SIAC East Cluster Crossover to Stay Perfect in Conference Play

Albany, Ga. - The Albany State women's volleyball team capped off an impressive showing at the SIAC East Cluster Crossover Tournament, finishing Day 2 with a 2-0 record after defeating Kentucky State (3-0) and Central State (3-2)  inside Jones Brothers HPER Complex. With the victories, the Lady Golden Rams improve to  6-8 overall and 5-0 in SIAC play, continuing their climb in the conference standings.

Albany State opened the day with a dominant performance against Kentucky State, sweeping the Lady Thorobreds in straight sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-11). Jarianis Perez powered the offense with 10 kills, while Jayda Watson chipped in eight kills and three blocks. Myra Lopez anchored the back row with five digs and added three service aces, while setter Mimi Harris tallied 12 assists to orchestrate the attack. The Golden Rams hit an impressive .492 as a team, showing control on both sides of the ball.

The afternoon matchup against Central State proved to be a thriller, with Albany State pulling out a five-set battle (26-28, 25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 15-7). Balanced scoring was key, as Perez (10 kills), Shaniya Banks (7 kills, .600 hitting percentage), and Josiya Teague (9 kills) each made their presence felt. Defensively, Talia Smith held strong with 20 digs, while Harris distributed 20 assists and added three service aces. Maya Ogbogu and Banks teamed up at the net, combining for nine blocks to help close out the decisive fifth set.

With a 4-0 mark in the crossover tournament and a 5-0 conference record, Albany State is building momentum at the right time. The Lady Golden Rams now turn their focus to conference foe Clark Atlanta as they hit the road to face the Lady Panthers inside Epps Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday, September 30.
