Macon, GA – The Albany State Golden Rams launched their 2025 SIAC Baseball Championship campaign in dominant fashion with an 11-1 rout of Miles College on Day 1 of tournament action. Powered by an explosive third inning and a masterful complete-game performance on the mound, the Golden Rams advanced to the next round of the winners' bracket and will now face top-seeded Spring Hill on Thursday, May 2, at 3:00 PM.
Albany State broke open the game in the bottom of the third inning, posting five runs to seize early control. The scoring began with a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Austin Roberts that plated the game's first run. The Rams continued to capitalize on Miles' defensive miscues and timely hitting, including an RBI single by
Luke Addison and a three-RBI double crushed to left field by Trent Justice. By the end of the inning, Albany State held a commanding 5-0 lead.
Miles College responded with a single run in the top of the fourth, but it would be the only offense they could muster. Albany State resumed scoring in the fifth as
Emory Stephens delivered a two-RBI single to left field, driving in
Xander Little and
Tyler Turner to extend the lead to 7-1.
The Rams added insurance in the sixth when Turner brought in Trent Justice with a sacrifice fly, and
Isaiah Haygood capped off the night in the eighth with a two-RBI double that scored Justice and
Hill Corley, pushing the final margin to 11-1.
The star of the game was Albany State's pitcher,
Gercal Reyes, who tossed a complete-game gem. Reyes allowed just two hits and one earned run over nine innings while striking out an impressive 15 batters and walking four. His dominance on the mound ensured that Miles College never mounted a serious threat after the third inning.
With the win, Albany State moves forward in the winners' bracket and will take on the No. 1 seed, Spring Hill College, in a highly anticipated showdown on Thursday at 3:00 PM.
