Lady Golden Rams Sweep Day One of SIAC Softball Championship Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Columbus, Ga. – The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams came out strong on Day 1 of the 2025 SIAC Softball Championship, sweeping the day with two thrilling victories over Miles College and No. 1 seed Tuskegee University at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Georgia. With the wins, Albany State advances deeper into the winner's bracket, carrying major momentum into Day 2.

Game 1: Albany State 5, Miles College 4
Opening the tournament with a 10:00 a.m. first pitch, the Lady Golden Rams found themselves in a battle against the Lady Bears of Miles College. Miles jumped to an early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but Albany State responded in dramatic fashion. With two runners on, Madison Hurt delivered a clutch three-run homer over the fence to put the Lady Golden Rams ahead 3-2. Both teams were locked in a pitching duel through the middle innings until Miles tied the game in the sixth. After each team scored in the seventh, the game moved into extra innings.

Miles struck first with a solo home run in the top of the eighth, but Albany State refused to be denied. Romona McLeod tied the game by scoring from a double hit by Olivia Mason, setting the stage for a walk-off. With the crowd on their feet, after Trista Murphy entered the lineup and took a walk, Ty Brown roped a single up the middle, bringing home Erielle Reed for the thrilling 5-4 victory.

Game 2: Albany State 4, Tuskegee 2
Facing the top-seeded Lady Golden Tigers of Tuskegee later in the day, Albany State once again showed resilience and poise under pressure. After a scoreless battle through the first three innings, Avery Fisher sparked the offense with a run in the fourth. Madison Hurt kept the momentum going, singling with two outs, stealing second, and scoring to give ASU a one-run lead.

Tuskegee capitalized on an error and a passed ball to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning, but the Lady Golden Rams answered back in the seventh. Ty Brown led off with a single, followed by a clutch double from Kady Ayers that scored Brown. A costly error by Tuskegee's outfield allowed Ayers to also cross the plate, giving Albany State a two-run cushion.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Golden Rams' defense sealed the win, with Hurt making a game-saving catch to leave two Tuskegee runners stranded and secure the 4-2 victory.

The Lady Golden Rams (now 27-13 overall) are back in action tomorrow, April 29, when they face rival Fort Valley State at 1:30 PM in the next round of the SIAC Championship.
