Golden Rams Drop Series to Benedict College Despite Offensive Firepower

Columbia, SC - Albany State wrapped up its weekend conference series against Benedict College with a 1-2 record after splitting Saturday's doubleheader and dropping the series finale on Sunday. With the series loss, the Golden Rams fall to 15-14 overall and 10-8 in SIAC play, while Benedict improves to 10-9 overall and 8-9 in the conference.

Game 1: Benedict 16, Albany State 12
The series opened with an offensive slugfest as both teams combined for 28 runs. The Golden Rams struck first, but Benedict responded with a four-run fourth inning to take control. Albany State clawed back with big innings in the sixth and seventh, highlighted by Emory Stephens' two-run homer. Despite the Rams' late push, the Tigers capitalized on clutch hitting and errors to secure a 16-12 win. Matt Delay led the Golden Rams with four hits, while Stephens added four RBIs.

Game 2: Albany State 24, Benedict 6
Albany State responded dominantly in Game 2, putting up a season-high 24 runs on 14 hits. The Golden Rams exploded with a 12-run first inning and never looked back. Luke Addison and Tyler Turner each belted home runs, while Stephens added another to his weekend total. Landon Kiefer was stellar on the mound, throwing six strong innings, allowing just four runs on six hits while striking out six.

Game 3: Benedict 23, Albany State 13
The rubber match saw another high-scoring contest, but the Golden Rams fell short. Benedict came out swinging, putting up nine runs in the first inning and never relinquishing the lead. Albany State fought back, trimming the deficit to four runs in the fifth, but the Tigers pulled away with a dominant eighth inning. Nathan Saavedra went deep for the Golden Rams, and Hill Corley contributed three RBIs in the effort.
