Albany, GA – The Albany State Golden Rams fought hard but ultimately fell 18-6 to the University of West Alabama Tigers in a midweek non-conference matchup on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day at the West Campus Baseball Field. With the loss, ASU drops to 15-15, while UWA improves to 17-15.
The Golden Rams found themselves trailing early as West Alabama capitalized on an offensive surge, taking a 5-0 lead by the third inning. However, Albany State responded with an impressive effort in the bottom of the third.
Xander Little scored on a passed ball to put ASU on the board, followed by
Luke Addison's clutch two-RBI double to trim the deficit to 5-3.
Emory Stephens kept the momentum going, delivering an RBI single to bring ASU within one at 5-4.
Despite the Rams' rally, the Tigers extended their lead in the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by a two-run homer from Fisher Moss and multiple defensive errors by ASU, pushing the score to 10-4. Albany State attempted another comeback in the sixth as
Matt Delay scored on an infield error, and
Hill Corley's sacrifice fly brought
Seth Stargell home, cutting the lead to 14-6.
However, West Alabama continued to apply pressure, plating four more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach. ASU's pitching staff battled throughout the contest, but six errors and timely hitting from the Tigers proved costly.
