Lady Golden Rams Secure 5-2 Victory Over Spring Hill College

Box Score Mobile, AL – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams performed well, defeating Spring Hill College 5-2 in SIAC play at Medal of Honor Park. With the win, ASU improves to 6-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while the Lady Badgers fall to 3-10 overall and 3-3 in SIAC competition.
 
The Lady Golden Rams set the tone early, winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The duo of Natalya Ogunwale and Jenny Zapien secured a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Jonay Brittain and Julie Tungamirai battled to a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, giving ASU the advantage. Spring Hill's Brooke Powers and Paola Marin Sabao took the No. 3 doubles match with a 6-0 shutout, but Albany State's wins at the top two spots secured the point.
 
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles play, Albany State continued its strong performance, winning four of the six singles matches to claim the 5-2 team victory.
  • Jonay Brittain dominated at No. 2 singles, securing a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set win over Emma Koch to extend ASU's lead.
  • Jenny Zapien followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles against Romina Kroemer, putting ASU within one point of clinching the match.
  • Julie Tungamirai sealed the team win for the Lady Golden Rams, defeating Emma Pager 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
  • Natalya Ogunwale added the final point with a hard-fought comeback win at No. 1 singles, rallying for a 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory over Claire Bosman.
Spring Hill picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, with Brooke Powers and Paola Marin Sabao earning straight-set victories for the Lady Badgers.

With the win, the Lady Golden Rams remain one of the top teams in SIAC play and now shift their focus to the SIAC Roundup #2, which will take place in Mobile, AL, from April 2-4. This event will be a crucial opportunity for Albany State to continue its push for a high seeding in the SIAC Tournament.
