Box Score 3 Hilton Head, SC - The Albany State women's tennis team faced tough competition at the PTR Springfest in Hilton Head, SC, finishing the tournament with an 0-3 record. Despite the losses, the Lady Golden Rams put up a strong fight, earning key victories in both doubles and singles play throughout the weekend.

Match 1: Millersville University 4, Albany State 3
The Lady Golden Rams opened the tournament in a close match against Millersville University, falling 3-4. Albany State started strong in doubles play, securing the doubles point after impressive performances by
Jonay Brittain and
Julie Tungamirai, who earned a 6-4 victory, and
Natalya Ogunwale and
Jenny Zapien, who dominated with a 6-2 win. However,
Mykala Eckler and
Kennedy Talbert narrowly lost 4-6, keeping Millersville in contention.

In singles action, Ogunwale and Zapien were the only Lady Golden Rams to secure wins, as Millersville managed to edge out Albany State in the remaining matches to take the 4-3 overall victory.

Match 2: Thomas More 4, Albany State 3
The second match of the tournament was another hard-fought battle, with Albany State falling 3-4 to Thomas More. The Lady Golden Rams struggled in doubles play, with Brittain and Tungamirai losing 4-6 and Eckler and Talbert falling 0-6. However, Ogunwale and Zapien once again shined, securing a 6-2 win to prevent a doubles sweep.

In singles action, Albany State put up a strong fight, earning wins from Ogunwale, Tungamirai, and Zapien. However, the team was unable to secure a fourth point, allowing Thomas More to escape with the narrow 4-3 victory.

Match 3: East Stroudsburg 6, Albany State 1
The Lady Golden Rams finished the tournament with yet another narrow 3-4 defeat, this time against East Stroudsburg. Albany State started strong in doubles, earning the doubles point with Brittain and Tungamirai securing a 6-3 win, and Ogunwale and Zapien also winning 6-3. However, Eckler and Talbert were defeated 1-6, keeping East Stroudsburg in contention.

Unfortunately, the Lady Golden Rams were unable to carry their doubles success into singles play, as East Stroudsburg won four singles matches to claim the 4-3 victory.

Up Next
With the tournament now behind them, the Lady Golden Rams (5-5 overall) will shift their focus back to conference play. They will travel to Mobile, AL, to take on Spring Hill College in a solo match on March 22, looking to bounce back and return to the win column.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently field teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football.
