Memphis, TN – The Albany State Golden Rams and LeMoyne-Owen Magicians put on an offensive showcase in their Saturday doubleheader, with each team claiming a victory. The Magicians took Game 1 in a high-scoring 12-9 battle, while the Golden Rams responded with a dominant 18-3 victory in Game 2. With the series tied 1-1, the decisive Game 3 will occur on Sunday, March 2, at 11 AM.
Game 1: LeMoyne-Owen 12, Albany State 9
The series opener was an intense back-and-forth battle, with the two teams combining for 26 hits and 21 runs.
The Golden Rams jumped out to an early lead, with
Isaiah Haygood launching a solo home run and
Emory Stephens adding a two-run triple in the middle innings. However, LeMoyne-Owen stormed back, capitalizing on defensive miscues and clutch hitting.
A crucial four-run eighth inning sealed the game for the Magicians, who took advantage of Albany State's late-inning struggles to secure the 12-9 victory.
ASU's
Calvin Baker (2-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (none earned) in 2.2 innings of relief. LeMoyne-Owen's Nathan Sanchez (2-2) earned the win, pitching the final inning while allowing no runs.
Game 2: Albany State 18, LeMoyne-Owen 3 (7 Innings)
The Golden Rams wasted no time bouncing back in Game 2, delivering a dominant 18-3 victory, fueled by an offensive explosion and a shutdown pitching performance.
Albany State took control in the second inning, scoring seven runs, highlighted by
Tyler Turner's RBI single and a series of wild pitches and defensive miscues by LeMoyne-Owen. The Golden Rams continued to pile on runs, adding six in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to complete the rout.
On the mound,
Landon Kiefer (4-0) continued his stellar season, pitching 4.0 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just three runs.
William Beasley closed the game with three shutout innings, earning the save.
