Albany, GA – The Albany State Golden Rams delivered a commanding performance on Play4Kay Night, securing a 73-55 victory over Allen University at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex. With the win, ASU improves to 16-9 overall and 13-5 in SIAC play, while Allen falls to 6-17 overall and 2-15 in conference action.
From the opening tip, the Golden Rams set the tone with stifling defense and efficient shooting, racing out to an early lead.
Blaise Wallace led the charge, finishing with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, marking yet another double-double performance.
Kendale Johnson added 14 points, including three three-pointers, while
Shakur Poteat and
G'Shan Aldridge contributed 10 points apiece.
Albany State dominated the first half, holding Allen to just 13.6% shooting from the field while shooting an impressive 53.6% themselves. The Golden Rams built a 41-12 halftime lead, with Johnson and Poteat connecting from beyond the arc and Wallace controlling the paint.
Allen attempted to fight back in the second half, outscoring ASU 43-32, but the Golden Rams' early advantage proved too much to overcome. Albany State's defense forced 13 turnovers, leading to 18 points off turnovers, and their rebounding effort was dominant, outrebounding Allen 46-34.
Aldridge orchestrated the offense, finishing with five assists, while
Jabari Williams was a force inside, grabbing nine rebounds and adding nine points.
Cameron Evans chipped in seven points off the bench, providing valuable minutes in the second half.
