Albany State Announces Coaching Transition in Men’s Basketball

Albany, GA – March 3, 2026 — Albany State University Head Men's Basketball Coach Patrick Gayle has announced that he will step down from his position after eight seasons leading the Golden Rams program.

"We appreciate Coach Gayle's commitment to Albany State and the time he has invested in our student-athletes over the past eight years," said Dr. Kristene Kelly, Director of Athletics. "We thank him for his service to the university and wish him well in his next chapter."

Albany State will begin a national search for the next Head Men's Basketball Coach immediately.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football. All teams compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
