Albany, Ga. — The Albany State University women's volleyball team closed out their home slate in style on Tuesday night, defeating Edward Waters University in straight sets to secure a key conference victory. The Lady Golden Rams improved to 14-13 overall and 13-4 in the SIAC, while the visiting Lady Tigers fell to 10-13 overall and 10-8 in league play.
From the opening serve, Albany State established control with aggressive net play and steady defensive execution.
Josiya Teague led the offensive attack with a match-high 15 kills, while
Jarianis Perez and
Kaylin Teasley added 11 and 8 kills, respectively. Teasley also made her presence felt from the service line, delivering five aces, followed by
Natalie Onozie with three.
The Lady Golden Rams' defense was equally impressive, with
Shaniya Banks recording five blocks, while Teasley and
Maya Ogbogu contributed four and three blocks each to keep Edward Waters' hitters in check. Onozie set the tempo for the offense with 29 assists, complemented by
Liannette Burgos with 13 assists and
MiMi Harris adding five.
In the backcourt, libero
Myra Lopez anchored the defense with 16 digs, while
Talia Smith added 11 and Onozie chipped in nine, ensuring that the Lady Tigers' offensive runs were short-lived.
With the victory, Albany State continues to strengthen its postseason positioning as the SIAC Volleyball Championship approaches.
Up Next, the Lady Golden Rams will hit the road for their final regular-season stretch, traveling to Savannah, Ga., to face Savannah State University on Thursday, November 13, at 6 p.m.
