DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Albany State women's soccer team battled against one of the nation's top Division II programs Wednesday evening but fell 5-0 to the undefeated University of North Georgia Lady Nighthawks at the UNG Soccer Complex.
Facing a tough Peach Belt Conference opponent, the Lady Golden Rams (1-9-0, 0-6-0 PBC) showed grit throughout the contest as goalkeeper Leire Rodriguez Najera anchored the defense with 11 saves, making several key stops to limit UNG's offensive surge. Despite the Nighthawks' early four-goal burst in the first half, Albany State continued to fight, tightening its defensive structure and limiting UNG to just one goal in the second half.
Offensively,
Aixa Barrera registered the Lady Golden Rams' lone shot on goal, while
Jordyn Keene added another scoring attempt as ASU pushed forward in the second half. The Lady Golden Rams played with determination until the final whistle, showing steady improvement against an experienced and nationally ranked opponent.
Up next, Albany State returns home to host Middle Georgia State University on Saturday, October 11, at 7:00 PM at the ASU Soccer Complex for Senior Day and Officials Appreciation Day.
