LaGrange, Ga. — The Albany State women's soccer team closed out its final non-conference road matchup of the season with a thrilling 1-0 win over LaGrange College on Wednesday afternoon at Panther Field. The victory marks the Lady Golden Rams' third win of the season and a strong defensive showing that carried them to their first shutout victory of the year.
The lone goal came in the 22nd minute when freshman forward
Sinatra Vaughn capitalized on a penalty kick, driving the ball past the LaGrange keeper to give Albany State an early 1-0 advantage. Despite several close chances from both sides, Vaughn's goal held as the game-winner through the remaining 68 minutes of play.
In goal, Leire Rodriguez Najera anchored the Albany State defense with a stellar performance, recording eight saves to preserve the shutout. Offensively,
Jordyn Keene contributed three shots—two on target—while
Madysen Fraser and
Adjoa Mensah added additional pressure with key attacking plays that kept the Lady Panthers on their heels.
Defensively, the Lady Golden Rams stood firm, limiting LaGrange to just 10 total shots and shutting down four corner-kick attempts in the second half. The team's discipline and composure were evident, committing only two fouls in the entire match.
With the victory, Albany State improves to 3-11-1 overall, earning momentum as they head back into Peach Belt Conference play.
