Albany State University Athletics Announces the Hiring of Assistant Athletic Trainers Derek Davis and Derik Davis

Albany, Ga. - Albany State University Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Derek Davis and Derik Davis as the newest Assistant Athletic Trainers for the Golden Rams Sports Medicine staff. The addition of the Davis brothers strengthens the department's commitment to providing high-quality health care, injury prevention, and performance support to all student-athletes.

Derek and Derik bring a wealth of experience, professional certifications, and a shared passion for student-athlete wellbeing. Their combined background includes comprehensive clinical experience, sport-specific rehabilitation, emergency care, and collaborative work with multidisciplinary medical teams. Each has demonstrated impressive leadership in athletic training rooms, on the sidelines, and in developing treatment plans tailored to athletes' needs.

"We are excited to welcome Derek and Derik to the Golden Rams family," said Dr. Kristene Kelly, Director of Athletics. "Their expertise, professionalism, and enthusiasm for supporting student-athletes align perfectly with our vision for excellence in sports medicine. Their contributions will elevate the standard of care we provide across all programs."

As Assistant Athletic Trainers, Derek and Derik will assist in daily sports medicine operations, including evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, rehabilitation program development, coordination with medical personnel, and game-day and practice coverage for assigned sports. They will also play vital roles in maintaining a safe and competitive environment for Golden Ram student-athletes.

Both Derek and Derik bring a deep understanding of Golden Ram culture, a passion for student-athlete wellness, and years of hands-on experience in sports medicine. Their unique journey—from teammates on the gridiron to certified athletic trainers—embodies the resilience, discipline, and commitment that define Albany State University athletics.

Albany State University Athletics looks forward to the positive impact both Derek and Derik will bring to the department as the Golden Rams continue their pursuit of excellence on and off the field.
