Albany State University Director of Athletics, Dr. Kristene Kelly, proudly announces the hiring of Derik Davis as the newest addition to the athletic training staff on October 17, 2025.Â
Davis brings extensive clinical experience across orthopedic, sports medicine, urgent care, and rehabilitative settings. His hands-on work with Phoebe Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, MSA Orthopedics, OneSource Healthcare, Crisp County High School, and Georgia Southwestern University has equipped him with a broad and dynamic skill set as he steps into his new role as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Albany State.
Davis began his collegiate journey at Georgia Southern University before transferring to Albany State University, where he made an immediate impact both academically and athletically. As a member of the Golden Rams Football Program, he played a vital role in helping ASU secure the 2021 SIAC Championship. His dedication in the classroom was equally impressive—Davis was named to the SIAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team (2018–19), recognizing his academic excellence and commitment to student-athlete success.
In December 2021, Davis earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance from ASU. Continuing his commitment to the field of sports medicine, he became one of the inaugural graduates of Albany State’s Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program in 2025—an achievement marking him among the first cohort of nationally trained athletic healthcare professionals to emerge from the university.
A native of Leesburg, Georgia, Derik Davis is a proud alumnus of both Deerfield-Windsor School and Albany State University. A standout student-athlete in high school, Davis earned All-State and All-Region honors, setting the foundation for an accomplished collegiate career.
Outside of athletic training, Davis enjoys hunting and fishing, staying grounded in the outdoor traditions of his South Georgia roots. As an ASU alumnus, former championship-winning student-athlete, and now a dedicated healthcare professional, Davis embodies the mission, pride, and excellence of Golden Ram Athletics.
