Lady Golden Rams Earn a Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Albany State women's soccer team made history Wednesday afternoon, earning its first-ever win over Southern Wesleyan with a 3-2 comeback victory at Childs Field. The Lady Golden Rams (2-8-1, 0-5-1 PBC) fought back from a two-goal deficit to top the Lady Warriors (3-7-1, 3-4-1) in a thrilling non-conference matchup.

Southern Wesleyan took an early 2-0 lead after goals by Fianna Steves in the 19th minute and Vitallia Benforte in the 38th. The Lady Golden Rams responded right before the break when freshman Nelia Dailey connected in the 43rd minute off an assist from Jordyn Keene, trimming the deficit to 2-1 at halftime.

Momentum carried into the second half as Sinatra Vaughn netted the equalizer just two minutes after the restart, leveling the score at 2-2. Albany State continued to press offensively, and in the 69th minute, Dailey found the back of the net once again—her second goal of the game—off a perfect setup from Audrey Rhoden, sealing the comeback win.

The Lady Golden Rams recorded 13 total shots with eight on goal, led by Vaughn (four shots, two on goal), Keene (three shots, three on goal), and Dailey (two goals on two shots). Goalkeeper Leire Rodriguez Najera anchored the defense with six crucial saves across 90 minutes of action.

With the win, Albany State captures its second victory of the season and a major confidence boost as they return to conference play.

Up Next: The Lady Golden Rams will hit the road again to face Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference matchup on Saturday, October 18, at 1:00 PM in Milledgeville, Ga.
