Lady Golden Rams Break Savannah State’s Streak with a Commanding Victory

Albany, GA – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams delivered a statement win on Military Appreciation Day, defeating the Savannah State Lady Tigers 61-43 on Saturday afternoon inside The Arena at West Campus. This victory marked the Lady Golden Rams' first win over Savannah State since the Lady Tigers rejoined the SIAC in 2019, snapping an 11-game losing streak in the series. With the win, Albany State improved to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Savannah State dropped to 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC.

Albany State came out strong, outscoring Savannah State 18-13 in the first quarter behind efficient scoring and defensive intensity. Keyra Peterson and Johanna Bell led the offensive charge, combining for 19 first-half points. The Lady Golden Rams extended their lead to 33-19 at halftime, fueled by their ability to dominate the paint and capitalize on Savannah State's turnovers.

The Lady Golden Rams maintained their momentum in the second half, holding the Lady Tigers to just six points in the third quarter. Albany State's defense forced Savannah State into tough shots, limiting them to just 23.8% shooting from the field for the game. Key buckets by Peterson and Na'Haviya Paxton down the stretch ensured the Lady Golden Rams kept their comfortable lead intact.

Albany State shot 38.2% from the field (21-of-55) and 50% from beyond the arc (4-of-8). The Lady Golden Rams dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Tigers 45-39. Albany State capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off Savannah State's 21 giveaways.

Keyra Peterson was a dominant force on both ends of the court, Peterson recorded her fifth double-double performance of the season with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals. Johanna Bell added 14 points, including three three-pointers, while dishing out 4 assists. Na'Haviya Paxton contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, providing a steady presence in the paint.
Savannah State's Amani Hamilton led the Lady Tigers with 12 points and 9 rebounds, but the Lady Golden Rams' defense stifled much of the opposing offense throughout the game.
