Albany State Falls to USC Aiken in 2-1 Battle

Albany, GA - The Albany State Lady Golden Rams fought hard but ultimately fell 2-1 to the USC Aiken Lady Pacers on Saturday, dropping their overall record to 1-6 and 0-2 in conference play. USC Aiken secured its first win of the season, improving to 1-5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The match got off to a fast start with USC Aiken's Haley Howell putting the Lady Pacers on the board early. Howell found the back of the net at the 12:01 mark, giving USC Aiken a 1-0 lead after breaking through Albany State's defense.

Albany State responded later in the first half when Jordyn Keene capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity at the 29:57 mark, evening the score at 1-1. The Lady Golden Rams kept the pressure on for the remainder of the first half but were unable to add to the score before the break.

The second half saw both teams pushing for the go-ahead goal, but it was USC Aiken who found the breakthrough in the 71st minute. Brooke Morrison, assisted by Payton Bates, netted the decisive goal at the 71:26 mark to put the Lady Pacers ahead 2-1.

Despite several attempts to equalize, the Lady Golden Rams were unable to find a second goal. The loss marks the second consecutive conference defeat for Albany State, as they look to rebound in their upcoming matches.

Albany State will look to regroup as they continue their 2024 campaign.
