Albany State Volleyball: Finishes Day One at the SIAC Crossover Tournament with 1-1 Record

Albany, GA- The Albany State University (ASU) Lady Golden Rams opened their conference campaign at the SIAC Crossover Tournament with two action-packed matches On Friday, September 20. The first day of competition began bright and early with a 10:00 AM showdown against Miles College, followed by a primetime clash at 8:00 PM against Central State University.

Match 1: ASU vs. Miles College
In their first matchup of the day, the Lady Golden Rams dominated Miles College, securing a commanding 3-0 victory. ASU's offense was led by the powerful performance of Jarianis Perez, who tallied 13 kills and added nine digs to her stat line. Sydney Melton also had a standout performance, finishing with nine kills and nine digs, showcasing her versatility both offensively and defensively.
The setting duo of Liannette Burgos and Mimi Harris kept the Lady Golden Rams' offense running smoothly, with Burgos dishing out 13 assists and Harris contributing 12 assists. Their ability to spread the ball efficiently was key in Albany State's sweep of Miles College, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.

Match 2: ASU vs. Central State
The primetime match against Central State proved to be a much tougher battle. After five thrilling sets, the Lady Golden Rams ultimately fell 3-2. Despite the loss, Albany State showed heart and determination, led once again by the outstanding play of Jarianis Perez. Perez delivered an incredible 21 kills and added nine digs, carrying the offensive load for ASU.
Sydney Melton continued her stellar day, notching a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, further proving her all-around impact on the court. Mimi Harris was once again instrumental in running the offense, recording 18 assists. On the defensive side, Kaylin Teasley made her presence felt, contributing four crucial blocks to keep ASU in the match.
Though they came up short against Central State, the Lady Golden Rams displayed grit and teamwork throughout day one of the SIAC Crossover Tournament. They look to build on their successes and make adjustments as the tournament progresses.

Up Next
Albany State returns to HPER Complex for another day of conference action. Day two kicks off at 9:00 am with a match against Kentucky State. The final match of the day will be at 4:30 versus LeMoyne-Owen College.
