Albany, GA – The Albany State University Women's Cross Country team is gearing up for the annual Julius Johnson Invitational, hosted by Mercer University. The Lady Golden Rams, who finished in 5th place at last year's meet, are eager to improve upon their previous performance and compete against a strong field of teams on Saturday, September 21.
The Julius Johnson Invitational, held in tribute to Julius C. Johnson Jr., a 1950 graduate of Mercer University and former member of the track and field team, honors Johnson's legacy by bringing together some of the best collegiate cross country programs in the region. The meet is a highly anticipated event on the ASU calendar, and the Lady Golden Rams are ready to show their determination and athleticism on the course.
The competition kicks off at 8 a.m. with the men's 8K race, followed by the women's 5K at 9 a.m., where Albany State will face a tough field, including teams from Clayton State, Georgia College, Brewton-Parker, Mercer, Georgia Southwestern, Tuskegee, Florida Gateway College, Morehouse, Benedict, Georgia Military College, Clark Atlanta, Fort Valley State, Oxford College, ABAC, Wesleyan, and Georgia State.
ASU women's team is striving to follow in the footsteps of last year's squads and aim for a first-place finish. With strong runners and a focused mindset, the Lady Golden Rams are poised to make a statement at the Julius Johnson Invitational.
