COLUMBIA, SC – The Albany State University women's soccer team secured their first season victory with a dominant
5-1 win against Allen University on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Rams' season record improved to
1-3, while the Lady Yellow Jackets dropped to
0-3.
Albany State dominated much of the match, building a
3-1 lead at halftime before adding two more goals in the second half to secure the win.
The Golden Rams struck first in the
17th minute when
Gabby Toney opened the scoring with her first goal. Allen responded at
30:37 with a goal from
Sara Duque Castano, assisted by
Tatyana Machado, to even the score at 1-1. However, Albany State quickly regained momentum as
Jordyn Keene netted her second goal of the season at
34:35, followed by a successful
penalty kick from
Taniya Averett just before halftime, making it 3-1.
In the second half, Albany State continued to apply pressure.
Jordyn Keene scored her second goal of the match in the
78th minute, bringing her total to third for the season.
Taniya Averett closed out the scoring at
85:29 with her second goal of the day, sealing the
5-1 win for the Golden Rams.
