Albany, GA- The Albany State University (ASU) women's soccer team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, falling to Clayton State University (CSU) 11-0. The loss marked the most points allowed by ASU this season, as Clayton State improved to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Albany State dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Clayton State wasted no time establishing control of the match, with Amiah Sprunger-Hightower putting in a standout performance. Sprunger-Hightower opened the scoring at the 20:10 mark, assisted by Carrie Consolino. Just minutes later, Sprunger-Hightower struck again, this time from the penalty spot at 25:46. Her third goal came at 30:22, assisted by Leah Agrell, completing a first-half hat trick that gave Clayton State a commanding lead.
Clayton State didn't let up after halftime. At 48:19, Consolino scored her first goal of the match, assisted by Sprunger-Hightower. Consolino added another goal at 57:26, assisted by Paige Kohl, as the Lady Lakers continued to pile on the goals.
Clayton State's offensive play saw additional goals from Smilia Rosenborg (44:01), Dayla Ayayda (65:16), Vanesa Herrera Cano (85:11), and Laila Roberson (89:18). The Lady Lakers spread their scoring across the roster, with multiple players getting involved in assists, including standout performances from Hanna Karlsson and Lovisa Peilot.
While ASU has faced a challenging start to their season, now standing at 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, they'll look to learn from this match as they continue their journey through the conference schedule. Clayton State, on the other hand, remains undefeated in conference play and looks like a formidable contender this season.
