ALBANY, Ga. – It was a bit tighter but the Golden Rams started another league series off the right way. Albany State plated a pair of 10th-inning runs and held host Savannah State scoreless in the bottom of the frame for the 6-4 baseball win to open the three-game SIAC series.
After each team went down in order in the ninth inning, ASU (29-9/26-2 SIAC) went to work. With one out, Luke Addison sliced a double and moved to third on a fly out. Following a Hill Corley intentionally walked, Austin Roberts lined a single to score Addison with the go ahead run. Two batters later, Emory Stephens was hit by the pitch and brought Corley home for a 6-4 edge. Addison then took the mound where he gave up a Tiger lead-off single before retiring the next three, including two via strikeout, to complete the save.
Jonathan Logsdon kept his hot hitting with a 3 for 5 game where he doubled, scored once and drove in two. Roberts added a double and single with the game-winning RBI, while Corley was 2 for 4 with the final run. Stephen doubled with two run and two RBI, Addison doubled and Little had the final hit of a single.
Kaleb King pitched the final two-thirds of the ninth for the win with strikeouts for both his outs. Addison garnered the save in the 10th.
Savannah State led the first half of the contest with single runs in each of the first, third and fourth for a 3-0 lead.
ASU cut the margin in the fifth. With one out, Roberts doubled and moved to third on a ground out. Stephens lined his own two-bagger to bring him home. Little followed with a single, before Logsdon singled home Stephens to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the seventh, Stephens was hit by a pitch to start the Golden Ram frame. With one out, Logsdon belted a double to bring home Stephens. Logsdon then moved to third on a wild pitch before Zane Ross lofted a sac fly to tie the game at 4-4.
ASU completes the 3-game series at Savannah State on Saturday afternoon, April 20, starting at 12 p.m. with the third game beginning at approximately 3 p.m.
