ALBANY, Ga. – After a successful weekend, the Golden Rams could not carry it over into a Wednesday afternoon contest. Georgia College held Albany State to five hits and plated five runs in the final three innings to break a tie for the baseball non-conference win, 7-2.
Trailing 2-0 going to the home sixth, ASU's Jonathan Logsdon lined a lead-off single for the team's first hit of the game. After two outs and a passed ball, Logsdon rumbled home when Bradley Smith laced a double. Following Hill Corley's single, Austin Roberts added his own single to drive in Smith to tie the contest, 2-2. The Bobcats (24-13) answered with a pair of scores in the top of the seventh on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch before they put three insurance runs in the ninth for the final tallies. The Golden Rams were only able to get a pinch hit Ty Grover single with one out in the ninth over the last three at bats.
Smith recorded the lone ASU (25-9) extra base hit with his RBI double in the sixth. Logsdon singled and scored to go with a pair of walks and he was hit by a pitch once. Corley, who walked twice, Roberts, who had an RBI, and Grover were the other three home hits.
On the mound, ASU received scoreless innings of work from Andrew McBride, Gercal Reyes , Keith Taylor and Chandler Walker, while Kaleb King logged two-thirds of an inning.
ASU returns to home action this weekend in its next SIAC 3-game series starting on Saturday (April 13) in a doubleheader against Benedict College. Game times for 'Senior Day' starts at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
