Golden Ram Bats Alive & Well in Sweep of Tigers

ALBANY, Ga. – The Golden Ram offense had no trouble putting runs on the Saturday scoreboard. Albany State bats were alive and well with runs with 28 runs in its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Benedict College, 16-5 and 12-1.

Tied at 1-1 after the opening inning of the day, ASU (27-9) took control. With four runs already in, Hill Corley lined a two-run hit to right field to complete the six-run frame for a 7-1 lead. Leading 10-5 in the home fourth, Jonthan Logsdon laced a two-run triple and Zane Ross followed with a double to drive him in as part of five runs sealing the victory.

Scoreless going to the bottom of the third, the Golden Rams exploded off the Tigers (12-18) pitching with eight runs and never looked back. With one out, Logsdon tripled and Ross doubled him home before Luke Addison blasted his first of two homers. Logsdon came around for a second time in the at bat and sliced a 3-run triple to take the score to 8-0. Addison added a second 2-run homer in the home fifth.

With 31 hits in 12 at bats, the Golden Rams' top three lineup hitters – Logsdon, Ross and Addison - did more than their job by going a combined 17 for 25 with 15 runs, two doubles, four triples, two home runs and 18 RBI. Logsdon tripled three times and had eight RBI, Ross scored six runs and double two times and Addison added a triple, a pair of home runs and six RBI.

Corley chipped in four singles and three RBI. Bradley Smith doubled and singled with two RBI, while Nathan Saavedra and Seth Stargell had two singles. Emory Stephens and Quintard Wright rounded out the offense with one hit.

Brady Davis (7-1) took care of the first four innings in the opener where he gave up two earned runs, four hits and struck out four. Calvin Baker and Kaleb King both recorded scoreless outings over the final three frames following Davis.

Jeremiah Reddell recorded his fourth pitching win late with four innings of one-hit and two-strikeout numbers. Gercel Reyes, William Beasely and Chandler Walker held Benedict off the scoreboard as well.

ASU completes the 3-game set against Benedict College on Sunday afternoon, April 14, in a 12 p.m. single game.
