Golden Rams Takes Diamond Pair from Golden Tigers

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Golden Rams started off another league series the right way. Albany State started the day with a big inning and finished it with a scoreless home at bat to take a baseball pair from Tuskegee, 14-3 and 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.

With the first three ASU (16-7/15-2 SIAC) batters reaching base, Bradley Smith laced a two-run double to right field before Austin Roberts singled home the fourth score for a 4-0 lead. The Golden Rams added multiple runs in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings as Jonathan Logsdon had two 2-run doubles and Dominic Rutigliano another in the 14-3 effort.

In the late game, ASU's Emory Stephens stole home as part of a double steal in the second for the game's first score. Both Xander Little and Zane Ross lined run-scoring hits in the fourth to make it a 3-0 edge. The two team played to a 2-2 tie over the final 2.5 innings with Brady Davis allowing a lead-off single in the sixth before he retired three straight to end the day.

Logsdon was the ASU offensive catalyst from his lead-off spot by going 5 for 6 with three runs, two 2-run doubles and a stolen base. Both Roberts and Saavedra accounted for three hits apiece in six at bats. Roberts had a double with a run and two RBI, while Saavedra lined a double, three runs and two stolen bases.

Stephens, Ross, Addison and Smith were successful twice. Smith doubled and drove in three, Stephens scored three times, Ross had two RBI and Addison drove in a trio of his own. Catchers Rutigliano doubled home two and Little singled home another.

In the opener, Jeremiah Reddell went the first four frames for the win where he gave up three earned runs and fanned two. Andrew McBride was unhittable in the final three innings and struck out five. For Game 2, Brady Davis went the distance as he won the game with six hits and two earned runs to go with a strong seven strikeouts.

The two baseball teams finish their 3-game series Sunday afternoon (March 24) in a 1:00 p.m. EST first pitch.
