ASU Walks Past Tuskegee for Series Sweep

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Golden Tigers were generous Sunday hosts to the Golden Rams. Albany State took advantage of receiving 16 walks and used its hits in a timely fashion to complete a weekend series sweep over Tuskegee University, 9-4.

Leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth with two outs, ASU's Emory Stephens, Xander Little, Jonathan Logsdon and then Zane Ross drew the fourth free pass in a row for the first run. Luke Addison, then, plated Little on a fielder's choice before the third out was recorded for what would be the game-winning run and 5-1 lead.

Tuskegee posted a trio of runs in the home sixth to cut the margin, 6-4, but Nathan Saavedra drove in one and both Ross and Addison saw four balls for bases loaded RBI walks for two final ASU (18-7/15-2 SIAC) insurance tallies in the visiting ninth. Pitcher Tyler Bullock rolled a double play to end the game in the ninth and complete his four scoreless frames of relief.

In the nine innings, ASU produced only four hits to go with the 16 walks and four Golden Rams hit by a pitch. Austin Roberts accounted for half of them on a 2 for 4 day with a run, while Saavedra was 1 for 3 with a run and the fielder's choice RBI. Guillermo Yepes singled and had an RBI groundout for the other hit. Addison had the unusual line of being 0 for 2 but having three RBI to his credit.

Landon Kiefer started on the hill for ASU and went the first four frames. He allowed only one earned run and three hits to go with his five strikeouts.

Starting the day off right, the Golden Rams put two quick runs on the scoreboard without regeristering a hit. Logsdon and Ross walked and moved up to second and third on a passed ball. Addison lofted a sac fly and then Yepes ground out to short for the second run and 2-0 lead.

Hill Corley bounced into a fielder's choice which scored ASU's third run in the third for a 3-1 lead.

ASU travels to Americus, Ga., for a Wednesday evening (March 27) single game at Georgia Southwestern starting at 6 p.m.
