ALBANY, Ga. – The Golden Rams completed their successful weekend on Sunday afternoon. Albany State broke open the baseball game late and finished the sweep of Spring Hill College, 12-2.
Leading 2-1 heading into the home fifth with two outs, ASU (16-7) received back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Luke Addison, Bradley Smith and Hill Corley to turn the contest into a 5-1 margin. Ahead 5-2, the Golden Rams attack went back to work in the seventh as Smith singled to load the bases before both Luke Ross and Addison raced in to score on Badger error. Austin Roberts finished the at bat with a run-scoring single (8-2). ASU ended the day with a Seth Stargell RBI double and a Corley two-run hit.
Landon Kiefer improved to 4-1 on the hill as he covered the opening five frames. He gave up five hits, one earned run and struck out four Badgers.
Of the nine home hits, Addison, Smith and Corley each registered two of them. Addison was 2 for 3 with three runs, a double, two RBI and two walks, while Smith went 2 for 3 with a sac fly and two runners driven in. Corley added his own 2 for 5 day with three RBI.
Stargell pinch hit and doubled to drive in an eighth-inning run and scored a run off the bench. Roberts lined an RBI single, while Jonathan Logsdon completed the hitting with a 1 for 2 day where he scored four times and stole a base.
After a double play ended the Spring Hill top of the first, ASU put its first three batters on base as Logsdon singled before Ross and Addison walked. Smith followed with a sac fly for a 1-0 lead. Addison made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third off on a double.
Albany State will have the next week off before it returns to the diamond on Friday afternoon, March 22, in a 1 p.m. single game at Tuskegee University.
