Golden Rams Plate Two Dozen, Finish Sweep of Thorobreds

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Golden Rams did not leave any hits in the clubhouse on Monday afternoon. Albany State plated two dozen runs and finished its series sweep of Kentucky State going away, 24-5.

After both teams scored three runs in the first frame, ASU (12-7/10-2 SIAC) did not let up for four more at bats in a row. With a pair in the second and a Jonathan Logsdon solo shot in the fourth, the Golden Rams exploded for eight in the fourth, including a Nathan Saavedra 3-run homer and nine more scores in the fifth with a pinch hit Guillermo Yepes grand slam round-tripper as the big hit to open a commanding 23-3 advantage.

After a rocky first inning where he gave up three runs, Landon Kiefer righted the ship and allowed only a single hit in his other three innings of work for the pitching victory. The trio of relievers of Thomas Willis, Sebastian Griffeth and Jordan Ackerman gave up only one earned run and three hits, while they fanned three Thorobreds in the final three frames.

Of the 20-hit offensive attack, ASU saw four 3-hit plus players led the way. Lead off hitter Logsdon did his job with a 4 for 6 afternoon where he scored five times, drove in three and hit a solo homer. Luke Addison had an identical 4 for 6 day with two runs, three RBI and a top-of-the fourth solo homer.

Saavedra registered three hits with a 3-run homer, 2-run single, a double and two runs. Emory Stephens produced a 3 for 6 games with two runs scored, a RBI single as part of the 9-run fifth and a double. Yepes made his pinch hit count with a grand slam in the fifth to drive in four scores and Zane Ross score a trio of runs and single two times. Rounding out the offensive accolades, Austin Roberts doubled, singled and scored twice, Bradley Smith singled and drove in a pair and Xander Little touched home three times and singled.
