ALBANY, Ga. – The Golden Rams shook off an early deficit and blasted two baseballs for success. After rebounding from an early five-run deficit, Albany State use a pair of home runs from Hill Corley and Nathan Saavedra in its final two at bats to seal the 13-8 victory Flagler University.
Tied at 5-5 in the home fourth, Corley singled home Luke Addison to edge ASU (13-7) ahead, 6-5. The Golden Rams never trailed the rest of the contest. Leading 7-6, Corley smashed a lead-off solo homer to start the bottom of the seventh and Guillermo Yepes lofted a sac fly. Following three walks in the eighth to load the bases in the eighth, Saavedra connected on a grand slam home run for the new 13-6 lead. The Saints plated a pair in the ninth, but it wasn't enough.
Saavedra and Corley both went 3 for 4 in the contest. Saavedra added a pair of singles to go with the grand slam and a RBI bases-loaded walk. Corley singled twice to go with his home run and two runs. The trio of Zane Ross, Austin Roberts and Emory Stephens all lined two hits. Ross stole a base and scored one, Roberts scored two runs and drove in one and Stephens had two RBI. Jonathan Logsdon, Bradley Smith and Addison completed the hitters with a single each.
Calvin Baker gained the pitching win where he logged the fourth and fifth frames without a run and struck out two.
Trailing 5-0 going to the home second, Saavedra drew a bases loaded walk for the Golden Rams' first run. Stephens lofted a sac fly for a 5-2 score. ASU tied the game in its third trip to the plate when Roberts, Saavedra and Stephens drove back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to make it 5-5.
ASU will now be off until Saturday, March 16, for Little League Day when it hosts Spring Hill College.
