Opening Day Split for Golden Rams

The Albany State Golden Rams softball team opened the 2023 season by splitting with the Montreat Cavaliers on the ASU West Campus on Saturday afternoon. 
 
In game 1, the Cavaliers stunned the Golden Rams by winning (10-1). 
 
The Golden Rams scored their only run in the game when Morgan Brown singled to center field to score Madison Hurt.  The Golden Rams bats were held to 4 hits by the Cavaliers. 
 
Mackenzie Chamblee was the losing pitcher for the Golden Rams.
 
In game 2, the Golden Rams bounced back by shutting out the Cavaliers (8-0).  
 
In the 3rd inning, Madison Hurt doubled to center field to score Tylar Jackson to give the Golden Rams a (1-0) lead.  Romona McLeod also hit a double to center field to score Keyatta Ayers and Madison Hurt to extend the lead to (3-0).  The Golden Rams scored again in the 3rd inning when De'Laynie Hollis hit a double to center field to score Glory Seay and Romona McLeod.
 
In the 4th inning, Romona McLeod hit a sacrifice fly to score Madison Hurt.  Morgan Brown hit a deep 2-run home run over the left field fence to give the Golden Rams a commanding (8-0) lead.
 
Romona McLeod earned the first win of the season for the Golden Rams.
 
The Golden Rams and Cavaliers will also play a double header on Sunday, February 5.  The first pitch is scheduled at 1:00 pm.
