The Albany State Golden Rams softball team defeated the Benedict College Tigers in their SIAC opener on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Rams defeated the Tigers twice on Saturday as they open their SIAC play (2-0) on the season.
Win the wins, the Golden Rams improved to (9-6) overall and (2-0) in the SIAC. The Tigers are now (2-8) overall and (0-2) in the conference.
In game 1, the Golden Rams defeated the Tigers (12-6). The Golden Rams scored 4 runs in the 2
nd inning and 5 runs in the 6
th inning against the Tigers. The Golden Rams finished with 16 hits in the game. Morgan Brown finished with 2 doubles while
Madison Hurt had a triple in the game.
Mackenzie Chamblee improved to (2-2) on the season. Chamblee pitched 6.2 innings and allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs. Chamblee recorded 3 strike outs.
In game 2, the Golden Rams defeated the Tigers (11-3). The Golden Rams exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 4
th inning. The Golden Rams had 15 hits in game 2.
Madison Hurt and Romona McLeod had 3 hits each for the Golden Rams.
Madison Hurt hit a triple while Ty'janae Brown recorded a double.
Trista Murphy recorded the win for the Golden Rams. Murphy pitched 5 innings and struck out 9 batters. Murphy is now (1-1) on the season.
