The Albany State University women's basketball team was defeated (91-79) by the Central State Marauders on Thursday evening. The Golden Rams women fell to (4-7) overall & (2-3) in the SIAC while the Marauders improved to (5-5) overall & (4-1) in the SIAC.
The Golden Rams trailed (26-9) at the end of the 1
st quarter and (38-21) at the half. After a furious comeback attempt, the Golden Rams trailed (62-57) at the end of the 3
rd quarter. But, it was too little, too late as the Marauders outscored the Golden Rams (29-22) in the final stanza to win by 12 points in the key SIAC showdown.
The Golden Rams shot 33.3% from the field as they connected on 21 of their 63 shot attempts. The Golden Rams shot 25% from the 3-point line. The Golden Rams attempted a whopping 46 free throw attempts in the game. The Golden Rams 34 free throws.
Kashay Hankerson led the Golden Rams with 20 points and 6 rebounds.
Kayla Milner finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Juanisha Black contributed with 12 points and 3 rebounds.
Three players finished in double figures for the Marauders. Kailyn Nash finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Ciara Hardy finished with 20 points and 4 rebounds while Naomi Shorts contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The Golden Rams men trailed the Marauders by 24 points at the half and eventually lost (86-69). The Golden Rams fell to (2-9) overall & (2-3) in the conference while the Marauders improved to (3-5) overall & (3-2) in the conference.
The Golden Rams shot 42.4% from the field in the game. But, the Golden Rams only connected on 2-15 from behind the arc. The Golden Rams made 11-16 from the free throw line. As a team, the Golden Rams were out-rebounded 46-28.
Four players finished in double figures for the Golden Rams.
Malik Parker and
Jaleel Simmons led the Golden Rams with 14 points each. Both,
Maurice Dickson and
Terin Wofford, contributed with 10 points.
Kevin Moore paced the Marauders with 27 points. Willie Jackson finished with 17 points. Marcus Scott contributed with 11 points and Steven Key II chipped in with 10 points.
